On September 6， 2006， The Times of the UK gave a two-paged coverage in its world news section of the interview of Premier Wen Jiabao， which provided impressive details in both pictures and language. On the second page， under the title "How Books and Learning Reveal Mind of Man Who Will Shape Future：' the essay carried in large Chinese and English typefaces lines of China's classics Premier Wen had quoted during his interviews with journalists， Among the lines were those by Zuo Zongtang， a renowned general of the Qing Dynasty， like "While I have little possession at. hand， I care deeply about my people across the land. Having devoured 10，000 books and drawing inspiration from ancient thinkers， l have the whole world in my mind，" those by Qu Yuan like "Long did I sigh to hold back tears; saddeneci I am by the grief of my people，" those by Zhang Zai， the Neo-Confucian philosopher of the Song Dynasty like "To ordain conscience for Heaven and Earth， to secure life and fortune for the people， to continue lost teachings for past sages and to establish peace for all future generations：' and those by Ai Qing， a poet in modern China， like '"You ask me
　　why my eyes are always filled with tears. It is because I love my Iand dearly." As the author stressed in the essay， Premier Wen Jiabao has been the only Chinese leader since Chairman Mao to show
　　openly his understanding of the classics of his own culture.
　　An overseas Chinese in the UK told Premier Wen Jiabao Iater， in great excitement， that it was quite unusual for The Time to carry lines of Chinese poetry in the Chinese language. The overseas Chinese was proud of Premier Wen Jiabao for his breadth of knowledge and for the wise articulation of his aspirations in such well-known sayings and dictum.
　　The English translation of the book is in nature an attempt to reveal the learning and language skill of Premier Wen Jiabao， as well as the wisdom of the Chinese traditional culture. The book is divided into two parts， with its first focusing on poetry and the second on prose works， there are altogether 103 essays among which 31 have to do with poetry and 72 with prose works. Essays in the book take respectively the themes of over a hundred poetic and prose works quoted by Premier Wen on different occasions， describes iri detail the specific contexts and environments of his quotations， interprets the background of those works from the viewpoint of literary critics， so as to display the unique charm of the Chinese classics to people of the modern society and to arouse the interest of the readers all over the world in exploring in the realm of traditional Chinese literature.
